Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man said follow-up actions will be arranged for the children who live in the estates affected by lead-tainted water if anything worrying is found concerning their development.
Speaking to reporters after attending an event today, Dr Ko said the assessments on children whose blood lead levels were found to exceed international standards have been completed and results are pending.
He noted that lead could affect the development of the nervous system's growth, and their condition will be monitored.
Dr Ko said since the Hospital Authority laboratories’ capacity for testing blood levels for lead has reached its limit as more blood testing needs to be done, it has arranged some samples to be tested in a US laboratory.
The authority is also considering buying new equipment to speed up the blood testing process, he added.
