CS promotes reform in Lai Chi Kok

April 29, 2015

Chief Secretary Carrie Lam said today that officials wish to interact with Hong Kong citizens by visiting different districts to publicise the Government's proposal on electing the Chief Executive by universal suffrage.

Mrs Lam visited Lai Chi Kok this morning with Secretary for Financial Services & the Treasury Prof KC Chan to promote the proposal.

Speaking to reporters after the event, Mrs Lam said it is hoped that through the promotional activities, officials would be able to explain the Government's political reform package to the people and get their feedback on it.

She stressed that not giving the media advance notice was not hurting press freedom, as no new announcements were being made at the events, adding that the presence of cameras may discourage people from approaching the officials.

Mrs Lam said the Government will continue to hold community outreach events.
