'Time now to listen' Raymond Tam

(January 20, 2014)

Secretary for Constitutional & Mainland Affairs Raymond Tam has reiterated that the Government will not comment on constitutional reform proposals because it is not fair and inappropriate to take a position in the first stage of public consultation.

Speaking to the media toady, Mr Tam said the community still has a wide range of opinions and the Government will continue to adopt an open mind on all proposals.

Mr Tam said the Government will consider announcing the written submissions and opinions received later.

On Prof Wang Zhenmin's comments on "meritocracy", Mr Tam said the professor did not suggest a new principle for Hong Kong’s constitutional development, but just used his own term to describe the different sectors in the Chief Executive’s election committee, which includes business and professional representatives.
