All reform ideas welcomed

(December 11, 2013)

Secretary for Constitutional & Mainland Affairs Raymond Tam says all kinds of proposals on constitutional reform are welcome and the Government maintains an open mind.

He was speaking to the media today after attending a forum on the Consultation Document on the Methods for Selecting the Chief Executive in 2017 & for Forming the Legislative Council in 2016.

He said everyone is entitled to their own views regardless of their background. The Government will maintain an open mind and attitude, and encourage everyone to express their ideas.

He said it is a very healthy sign for people to raise different proposals to achieve the common goal of universal suffrage in 2017. He said some may consider proposals raised as too conservative, or too liberal, which he said is the whole purpose of holding a public consultation.
