Heritage to be celebrated
The Heritage Fiesta & Roving Exhibition 2023, featuring 10 declared monuments and graded historic buildings related to greening and landscaping, will be held from October to December, the Commissioner for Heritage’s Office of the Development Bureau announced today.
The heritage fiesta will run from October 1 to November 30 at the 10 sites. Free guided tours will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
The monuments and graded buildings hosting the fiesta are: Cattle Depot Artist Village, formerly the Ma Tau Kok Animal Quarantine Depot; the Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware; the Green Hub at the Old Tai Po Police Station; the Health Education Exhibition & Resource Centre, located at Block S4 of the former Whitfield Barracks; the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre, located at Blocks S61 and S62 of the former Whitfield Barracks; the Lady Ho Tung Welfare Centre Eco-Learn Institute; Blocks 7, 10 and 25 of Lei Yue Mun Park, on the site of the Old Lei Yue Mun Barracks; the HKFYG (Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups) Leadership Institute, on the site of the former Fanling Magistracy; Pokfulam Farm, formerly the Old Dairy Farm Senior Staff Quarters; and Woodside Biodiversity Education Centre.
Meanwhile, the roving exhibition will be staged from October 1 to December 29 at a number of public libraries, government offices and shopping malls.
The Commissioner for Heritage’s Office said the declared monuments and historic buildings featured in the event each have a rich history and unique architectural features. Two of the historic buildings have won honours in the United Nations Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organization Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation.
Noting that the participating buildings are closely associated with green landscaping efforts and nature, the office said visitors were encouraged to explore the historic value and significance of these heritage sites, as well as the stories that connect them with their surrounding environment.
