3rd funded youth hostel project set
The Home & Youth Affairs Bureau today announced that it has approved the third project under the Subsidy Scheme for Using Hotels & Guesthouses as Youth Hostels.
Launched by the Lady Lau Memorial Charitable Foundation in collaboration with Chinese Estates Holdings, and operated under the name of Joseph’s House, the youth hostel encompasses an entire building on 86 and 88 Apliu Street, Sham Shui Po, with a total of 42 rooms providing up to 84 hostel places.
The hostel will organise workshops and events on various themes, such as self-development, community services, and cultural exchange for its youth tenants.
Apart from facilitating the tenants’ life planning, these opportunities will also broaden their horizons, enhance their personal growth and deepen their understanding of the country and the world as a whole.
Joseph's House is the first project under the scheme located in Kowloon. With its central location in Kowloon, the bureau noted that the youth hostel can well cater for its tenants’ daily needs, as it is easily accessible by different means of transport and close to community facilities and the district’s hipster hub.
The approval of the third project also demonstrates the support towards the scheme from different sectors of the community and their eagerness to join the Government in addressing young people’s housing needs, it added.
The bureau will continue to collaborate with non-governmental organisations and relevant stakeholders who share its vision to implement the next project under the scheme as soon as possible.
