Social distancing rules maintained

April 6, 2022

The Government today announced that the existing social distancing measures will be maintained for two weeks until April 20.

Catering businesses must continue to cease selling or supplying food or drink for consumption on the premises from 6pm to 4.59am of the subsequent day. The maximum number of people per table is two for the rest of the business hours.

Current measures such as allowing no more than two people per group gathering in a public place, prohibition of multi-household gatherings at private premises involving more than two households, the mask-wearing requirement and cessation of mass events, will continue to be implemented.

Additionally, to prepare for the potential reopening of premises and specific sports events, subject to compliance with specified requirements, performance venues can be opened for rehearsals and online streaming or recorded performances without a live audience. Meanwhile, sports premises and swimming pools can be opened for the training by or selection of the Hong Kong representative team and squad for specific sports events.

The phased implementation of the timetable for social distancing measures starting from April 21, including the resumption of dinnertime dine-in services and the reopening of scheduled premises by phases, will depend on whether Hong Kong’s epidemic situation continues to subside without showing any sign of rebound.

As the daily number of new COVID-19 positive cases remains high, the Government urges citizens to stay on guard by strictly observing social distancing measures.
