Chief Executive Carrie Lam today visited the Government Flying Service (GFS) to get an update on the department’s work and took a helicopter tour to view sites related to various development plans that she outlined in the 2020 Policy Address.

Mrs Lam first visited the GFS Headquarters for an update on the department’s daily work and the performance of its new generation of helicopters.

Noting that the GFS has handled nearly 2,500 cases covering provision of air ambulance service, search and rescue and firefighting operations in the first 11 months this year, she encouraged the department to rise to the challenges and provide the best services to the public.

During the visit, Mrs Lam also learned more about the helicopter flight distance and time between Hong Kong and other cities in the Greater Bay Area.

She then took a helicopter tour to inspect various development plans proposed in the 2020 Policy Address, such as reclamation works in Tung Chung and for the airport’s Third Runway System, Tuen Mun West’s land use planning, Lung Kwu Tan, the Northern Link’s alignment, and the development of boundary check points.

She said the Government will fully consider how to leverage the geographical advantages of the boundary area and sites near cross-boundary infrastructure to grasp the opportunities of the Greater Bay Area development.

“Along with the integration of Hong Kong into the overall development of the country and the enhancement of collaboration with Shenzhen, we will fully consider how to leverage the geographical advantages of the boundary area and the sites near cross-boundary infrastructure to grasp the various opportunities brought about by the bay area development.”
