Sportground no-show penalty tightens

June 30, 2014

The penalty imposed on individual hirers who fail to take up public recreation and sports facilities bookings without timely cancellation will be tightened.

The Leisure & Cultural Services Department announced today that from August 15, such hirers’ booking rights will be suspended for 30 days if they fail to show up on two occasions within 90 days without advance cancellation.

Individual hirers found engaging in unauthorised transfer or touting of user permits, or abusing the half-rate concession for senior citizens, students and the disabled, will face a 180-day booking-rights suspension.

The department noted that public demand for recreation and sports facilities has always been keen and the new measure aims to minimise resource wastage while combating abuse.

Hirers are urged to cancel their bookings as soon as they are aware that they cannot take up a booked session.
