Lead task force meeting held

July 17, 2015

The task force investigating the cause of excessive lead in the drinking water of some housing estates held its first meeting today.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, task force chairman Deputy Director of Water Supplies Wong Chung-leung said the group plans to complete the investigation within three months.

He said the meeting was to discuss and set the work plan on examining the cause of the contamination and make recommendations on measures to prevent recurrence.

Task force member Chan Hon-fai said the first stage of work will focus on data gathering, such as the lead level of the materials used in the estates' water pipes.

It will be followed by site inspections at the estates, during which water samples will be collected for analysis and parts of the pipes will be taken for examination.

The results will then be compiled into a report.
