Nearly half of Hong Kong's bus routes are being affected by the "Occupy Central" protest, Assistant Commissioner for Transport Albert Su says, adding that transportation will be seriously blocked on Hong Kong Island tomorrow morning.
Speaking at an inter-departmental press conference today, Mr Su said "Occupy Central" has affected 270 bus routes, making up 47% of total routes.
The department has contacted bus companies to evaluate and adjust their service network. Twenty-five minibus fixed routes and tram services between Victoria Park and Western Market have been suspended.
Mr Su believed transportation will be worse on Hong Kong Island when business and classes resume tomorrow after the public holiday. He called for commuters to allow more time for travelling and to plan alternative routes.
Director of Administration Kitty Choi said the Central Government Offices will operate normally tomorrow. She urged protesters blocking the building to open passageways for staff to enter. She also announced that all visitor activities at the building tomorrow will be cancelled or deferred.
Director of Information Services Patrick Nip said inter-departmental press conferences will be held over the following days to report on disruptions caused by the protest.
