The Hospital Authority is compiling a report on the death of a man outside North Lantau Hospital, which will be submitted to Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man.
Speaking to reporters today, Dr Ko said hospital workers had followed the correct procedures by informing Accident and Emergency Department medical staff after finding out the man was unwell outside the hospital.
He noted that medical staff took a few minutes to gather the necessary equipment for first aid and resuscitation, but before they reached the scene, an ambulance had arrived first and took the man to the hospital.
Dr Ko urged people to allow time for the authority to complete its report before drawing conclusions.
Regarding blood tests for residents affected by lead-tainted tap water, Dr Ko said test results have so far revealed a mild elevation in blood lead levels in a small number of children, and that the Hospital Authority and Department of Health will arrange for appropriate follow-up treatments.
He added that as more people have been affected by the tainted water, it is difficult to expand the blood testing programme. Authorities will focus their resources on those at risk to ensure they can be tested in a timely manner.
