The Health Department will arrange free blood tests for Kai Ching Estate residents who are concerned about the health risks after lead was found in water samples collected from the estate.
Speaking at an inter-departmental press conference today, Centre for Health Protection Surveillance & Epidemiology Branch Head Dr Regina Ching announced that blood tests could be arranged for infants, young children under six, pregnant women and lactating mothers. Residents can call 2125 1122 to arrange for the blood tests.
Dr Ching suggested that residents flush the faucet before using the water for drinking and cooking, as it could significantly reduce the lead level.
Prince of Wales Hospital Poison Treatment Centre Consultant Dr Raymond Wong also urged people not to worry, as the levels of lead in the water were unlikely to cause acute toxicity.
