Support needed for waste proposals

February 22, 2014

Secretary for the Environment KS Wong says the Government has worked hard to gain support for plans to expand landfills by proposing improvement measures to address local environmental concerns.

Speaking to the media today, he said more than 10 proposals were submitted in a paper to the Legislative Council’s Environmental Affairs Panel.

It has been proposed that the Tseung Kwan O landfill be designated for construction waste to reduce the number of garbage trucks passing through the district and minimise smell.

The Government will carry on with other waste reduction plans set out in its waste management blueprint to tackle the waste problem in a more balanced approach, he added.
