Gov’t will explain co-location benefits

August 02, 2017

Chief Executive Carrie Lam says the Government will continue to explain to the public the legal basis for the co-location arrangement for the Hong Kong Section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Hong Express Rail Link.

Mrs Lam made the statement in Singapore today in response to media questions about a newly-formed group's concerns over her government's co-location plan.

She reiterated that the co-location arrangement is essential to unleash the full potential of the railway system to benefit Hong Kong socially and economically.

"As far as the co-location arrangement is concerned, my Government will continue to explain to the people of Hong Kong, to concern groups and academics about the legal basis of doing this co-location arrangement at the West Kowloon terminus of the high-speed rail.

"I just don’t see any alternative to doing this co-location, in order to reap the huge economic and social benefits arising from our 26km Hong Kong section of the high-speed rail connecting to this massive high-speed train network in the Mainland.

"So we will continue to explain and to address any concerns that some quarters may have about the co-location arrangement."
