It is politically unrealistic and constitutionally inappropriate to ask the National People's Congress Standing Committee to withdraw its August 31 decision on the election of the Chief Executive.

Chief Executive CY Leung made this statement to reporters today, saying that, according to opinion polls, more than half of Hong Kong people accept the electoral reform proposal.

He called on pan-democratic legislators to listen to the views of Hong Kong people and support the reform proposal.
