Districts can heal rifts after protests

December 12, 2014

Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing said today that colleagues in various districts can help connect with different sectors of the community, hoping to heal the wounds and divisions in society in the aftermath of the occupation movement.

Addressing the media after a LegCo meeting, Mr Tsang said after Police had successfully cleared the protest sites the occupation had ended, adding that the Hong Kong people had shown great patience, tolerance and restraint for the duration of the movement.

He noted that Hong Kong is a civilised society and hoped that in future, people with different political opinions will stay united and display a sense of cohesion in society.

Mr Tsang added that the most important thing was to move forward towards the common goal of universal suffrage for the Chief Executive election in 2017.
