Meeting with students planned: CE

October 16, 2014

Chief Executive CY Leung says the Government will maintain dialogue with different sectors of the community on constitutional reform, including the Federation of Students.

Mr Leung told reporters today arrangements are underway to hold a meeting with students to discuss reform next week.

He said the Government has expressed its wish, via a third party, to hold a meeting as early as possible.

They have already reached consensus on the principles for the talk, and what remains to be solved are details like venue and whether to have a moderator.

He said a possible venue has been identified and the Government proposes to have a university vice-chancellor as a moderator to conduct the meeting in a fair and objective manner.

Chief Secretary Carrie Lam said she is happy to have direct dialogue with the students but sometimes communications via a middleman is useful when the two sides are not entirely certain of the other’s position on certain matters.
