Social order restoration urged

October 13, 2014

Chief Executive CY Leung expresses his hope that the Occupy Central movement will soon allow social order to be restored.

Speaking to the media in Guangzhou after a meeting at 10th Pan-Pearl River Delta Regional Co-operation & Development Forum & Trade Fair, Mr Leung said the Government and the Police have been restrained in curbing the movement that has seriously affected citizens’ daily lives, transport networks and business activities.

He stressed that the Government will not allow the movement to persist for a long time, and urged protesters to reopen roads.

The Police have cleared some road blockades at certain  protest areas without any large-scale clashes, he added.

Mr Leung explained that due to his packed schedule, he is not available to answer media enquiries in a timely fashion.
