Home Affairs head promotes Basic Law

April 24, 2014

It is important for people to know more about the Basic Law to take Hong Kong’s constitutional development forward, Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing says.

He made the statement while opening a Basic Law promotional event today.

He said the Basic Law stipulates that the Chief Executive will ultimately be selected by universal suffrage.

He urged people to give their views in the ongoing public consultation on constitutional reform to achieve the target of universal suffrage in the Chief Executive election in 2017.

The promotional event is being held by the Tsuen Wan District Council. Activities include a roving exhibition, quizzes, a design competition and seminars.

Basic Law promotional activities will be held in all 18 districts. The Government has provided each District Council with up to $250,000 to fund the events.
