Nat'l security dept probes knife attack
Police today said its National Security Department has taken over the July 1 case in Causeway Bay, in which an attacker used a knife to wound a male police officer then committed suicide.
Initial police investigations revealed that the case, which took place outside 555 Hennessy Road, was a lone wolf-style act of domestic terrorism and the attacker was believed to have been radicalised by a myriad of fake information, but other possibilities will not be ruled out.
The department is now investigating whether there was any accomplice involved, whether the attacker was incited by others to commit the crime, and whether there was any person in control or providing support behind the scenes.
Anyone with information connected to the case is urged to contact the department via its reporting hotline (WeChat ID: NSD62717171, SMS: 62717171) or by email.
